My first introduction to Yoga was more than 25 years ago. I was struggling with injuries from running and boxing. Someone said try yoga it can help heal your body , I thought yoga is for old people lol. Well after my first couple classes I realized I was so wrong. At the time, I had already had a personal training and group fitness instructor certification, so I decided to pursue yoga teacher training. I attended the Himalayan Institute which was a year long program. After that I became the fitness director at Marengo Park District in Illinois. Upon moving to Homosassa I was saddened to see that there was no local yoga studios. I decided to open one and do my best to provide a warm and uplifting space where people could focus on their health and wellbeing.
After being diagnosed with a chronic disorder, the cardio and step classes caused too much pain and tenderness throughout my body. I started yoga classes and was introduced to Yin Yoga over 15 years ago. Yin saved me and has become a weekly ritual to balance my life. Hatha yoga and low impact workouts helped balance out my weekly routines. As a newly certified instructor, I am excited to share my experiences by focusing on strengthening and stretching the body for an overall awareness. We can always do more than we think, we may just need to modify how we obtain our results.

I have always been a gym rat, starting back in my twenties. I have worked out at home, viewing exercise tapes for years. One day, an instructor needed a sub and I volunteered to step in. I enjoyed this so much that I continued on to earn my Group Fitness Instruction Certificate then earned by Basic Yoga Certificate. I enjoy blending my fitness classes with cardio, strength training, core, stretching and yoga.
It would be an honor to have you join me in my classes to share my experience.
Like many of us, I discovered yoga later in life in response to the chronic injuries and sheer exhaustion I was feeling both physically and mentally. At the time, I was a distance runner and the single mother of three teenagers, and I desperately needed something that would both quiet my mind and heal my body. It was then that I discovered yoga, and I’ve never looked back.
Fast forward to the more recent past, after living and teaching yoga in the Indian Rocks Beach/Largo area for many years, my partner and I decided to make the move to beautiful Homosassa Springs. Here, I am delighted to be offering my first class at Yoga Ray Fitness.
My personal style as a teacher has softened over the years but I still believe in the power of the practice to both lengthen and strengthen the body, while quieting the mind. My styles of teaching include Hatha and Vinyasa Flow Yoga, as well as Yin and Restorative Yoga. My Slow Flow Yoga class will include a little of everything. I hope to see you on your mat!
